I DID NOT COME TO BRING PEACE BUT DIVISION.

THURSDAY 21st OCTOBER, 2021. THURSDAY OF THE TWENTY-NINTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR B.

READINGS; ROMANS 6:19-23, PSALM 1:1-4,6, LUKE 12:49-53.

I DID NOT COME TO BRING PEACE BUT DIVISION.

The gospel of today can be misleading if not understood properly. Jesus is known as the Prince of Peace, yes that is true but he who is known as the Prince of Peace is saying that he did not come to bring peace but division, and he is even saying that our families will be divided son against his father and daughter against her mother.

Jesus is heralding the coming of the new era, the kingdom of God. Yes he is the Prince of Peace, the peace he brings is the peace of truth and sincerity, it is not the peace of compromise, we are all called to seek this peace and unity that Jesus brings and our starting point should be the word of God which should not be compromised.

We are to be obedient to the word of God, this is what we bring the division Jesus is talking about. He talks about the fire and baptism that he is to undergo. He is saying he wishes that the fire was already burning.

Fire is a symbol of judgment and purification. If we allow this fire of Jesus to purify our minds and hearts, we will become new creatures, a new humanity, a humanity obedient to the Word of God, we will always stand for God and division will arise because of those who have not allowed the fire of Jesus to purify their minds and heart, they are still the slaves of sin, therefore they will always stand against the children of God.

In our families their will be such people who will bring this division but you and me are called always to stand firm and allow ourselves to be led by the grace of God, the grace that makes us able to stand for what is right and just.

Today the message of Jesus brings more division than ever, we see Churches being divided on the positions and matters of faith and morality, questions of birth control, abortion, polygamy are today more than ever. We need the spirit of Jesus of no compromise and no partiality.

This is what made Jesus, John the Baptist to be killed because they stood for the truth. Even you and me if we are true disciples of Jesus we should accept to be hated, persecuted for the truth found in the gospel.

LET US PRAY TODAY TO HAVE THE COURAGE TO STAND FOR THE TRUTH REVEALED TO US THROUGH THE GOSPEL.

Non veni dare pacem sed separationem dicit Iesus: I did not come to bring Peace but division, says Jesus.
